Do I need any technical knowledge to install Hermes on my VPS+?
No, you don’t need any technical knowledge to install Hermes. Simply select it during the VPS ordering process and it will be set up automatically.
For further configuration and management of your AI agent, a basic understanding of Linux (SSH) is helpful. As you have full root access to the Linux system, you should be comfortable with the command line (SSH) as well as configuring Docker or Node.js. VPS+ gives you the maximum flexibility of a professional self-hosting system, but requires you to take responsibility for securing and maintaining the server yourself.
Why is running Hermes Agent on VPS infrastructure better than on your own PC?

How are the integrated AI models billed?
Your monthly IONOS VPS plan covers the infrastructure, while external language models such as GPT-4 or Claude are billed separately. As Hermes Agent acts as a smart interface, you typically use your own API keys from the respective providers for usage-based billing.
Can performance and storage be flexibly adjusted at a later date?
Yes, you can effortlessly adjust your IONOS VPS plan at any time to meet growing demands. Once Hermes Agent takes on more complex tasks and requires additional resources, you can upgrade to a more powerful option with more RAM, CPU performance, and SSD storage directly via the IONOS Control Center. Please note that these upgrades occur within defined configurations and that downgrading to a smaller plan at a later date is not technically supported.
Why am I being asked for login details when accessing the app’s web interface?
Your Hermes instance is automatically protected by an additional password (HTTP Basic Auth) – this keeps the web interface secure from unauthorised access. Enter ‘admin’ as the username and your server’s root password as the password. This is the same password you use for the SSH connection to your VPS. If you’d like to disable the protection, you can do so at any time via SSH on your server. Further information is available in your server’s Server Panel.
